NetRate

A focused suite of UK contractor tax calculators.

NetRate was built ground-up for the April 2026 tax rules. The dividend tax rise, employer NI 15%, and corporation tax marginal band changed the maths for nearly every UK contractor — yet most existing calculators still show 2025/26 numbers, sit behind lead-gen funnels, or hide their workings.

This site does the opposite. Calculators are free, ad-free, no signup. Every calculation is published openly on our methodology page, and every tax rate cites a HMRC source on our sources page.

The premium tier exists for people who want PDF reports and saved scenarios — not a paywall on the maths. The maths stays free, forever.

Calculations are informational, not tax advice. For decisions about your specific situation, consult a qualified accountant or tax adviser.

§ Who built NetRate

Designed & developed by Salman Ahmed.

Salman Ahmed is the founder, designer, and sole developer of NetRate. He is an independent web engineer based in Pakistan, building tools at the intersection of finance and software. His portfolio and other work are at salmanahmed.tech.

NetRate was built because every UK contractor calculator he could find still ran 2024/25 or 2025/26 numbers after the April 2026 tax changes had already kicked in — and most of them were free trials for accountancy services or paywalled summaries hiding the actual arithmetic. The site exists to fix that: free calculators, every line of arithmetic shown, every rate cited to HMRC.

The tax engine is a Next.js 16 + TypeScript application with 56 automated tests covering income tax, National Insurance, corporation tax with marginal relief, dividend tax, Scottish income tax, and end-to-end scenarios.
